The UK has only recently begun collecting broader data on child abuse linked to faith or belief. Researchers have explicitly highlighted the hidden nature of the problem. Victims are afraid to speak up or seek help. Not only has Mardoche become the voice for those victims, but he is bringing much needed awareness across the UK.

The true number is unknown. There is no publicly available data showing how many of these cases specifically involved witchcraft or Kindoki — and abuse of this kind is known to be under-reported. Mardoche Yembi was one child who survived it. Now he is telling his story.
